The Ten Commandments

Written by Josephine Minas

the ten commandments to follow in life all the time.

1] Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in  trouble, but it is a "steering wheel"  that directs the right path throughout.

2] So a Car's WINDSHIELD is so large & the Rear view Mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, Look Ahead and Move on.

3] Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.

4] All things in life are temporary.  If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either.

5] Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold!

6] Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!

7] When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

8] A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision!"

9] When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.

10] WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES, it takes away today's PEACE.

Christ is Risen!

He is risen indeed. That is the glorious event we celebrate on Easter Sunday morning with believers around the world. And someday we will receive the crown of righteousness prepared for those who have fought a good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7-8, NKJ).

We hope that your Easter celebration is blessed by the heavenly Father who loves us beyond our comprehension.

We have all heard the wise insight on the importance of counting our blessings and making them one by one; only then do we truly see what God has done for us. This Easter and New Assyrian Year, I urge us all to take time and tabulate the many blessings, great favor, and grace that God has continued to bestow on each one of us. We now have the boldness to claim eternal life in Christ; we now have the hope of knowing that our Lord and Savior lives in us. 1 Peter 1:3-6 reminds us that:

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by His great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while.”

This Easter, let us be a church that lives in God’s victory; let us be a church that rejoices in the blessings that God gives us. The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ's victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He is really the Son of God and that He has conquered death once and for all. Thomas needed proof of Jesus’ resurrection and when he confirmed it, he was filled with great joy. “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” John 20: 28-29

Our ancestors knew the power of the unseen God and every Nissan they observed Soma and remembered to attribute to God the celebration of new life in every area of their being. God continues to reveal Himself in a plethora of situations around us. Let us strengthen our faith and commitment in the word of God, let us continue in our commitment to the body of faith, and let us continue to count our blessings daily.

May you all have a wonderful Easter, a blessed New Year, and prosperity in all you do. May God continue to bless us all.

In His Service,

Cor-Bishop Fr. George Bet Rasho

What is Soma?

Written by Josephine Minas

What is supposed to happen during this great season? Soma is a spiritual discipline that is meant to spiritually strengthen those who enter into it. During this season of Soma, the church goes through a process of cleansing and purification. It is spiritually purified from all sin. During this season of Soma, the church takes this time to renew its commitment to her Savior; it also prepares its self to be resurrected with Him.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that there is a spiritual army of darkness working tirelessly and with a sole purpose of destroying the very being of the church. In Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”.  The Apostle Peter also urges us in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”.

For this reason Jesus fasted to be an example for the church. It is during this time that we as one; united in this battle for our eternity, fast as a church to be able to confront and defeat this enemy of mankind. As the Lord became victorious and defeated Satan in the wilderness, we too shall overcome him with our Saviors help and guidance. With constant meditation, knowledge, understanding, and committing ourselves to the word of God, we will grow stronger in conquering the enemy. We will stand firm and triumph over deceit so that we are not lead astray by our adversary.

It is during Soma that we measure our spiritual gauge and renew our commitment to the church of God. It is during Soma that we have a spiritual surgery and remove all that is not pleasing to God. It is during Soma that we reach out to those who are far off, bringing everyone who is willing to the comfort of the Fathers arms.  It is during Soma that we listen to what God is telling us.

Let us then open our hearts, our minds, our souls, and await in great anticipation at what God is going to do in our lives.  God bless you all as you go through this powerful season of getting closer to God.

In His Service,

Cor-Bishop Fr. George Bet Rasho
