Easter

Written by Josephine Minas

We have all heard the wise insight on the importance of counting our blessings and making them one by one; only then do we truly see what God has done for us. This Easter and New Assyrian Year, I urge us all to take time and tabulate the many blessings, great favor, and grace that God has continued to bestow on each one of us. We now have the boldness to claim eternal life in Christ; we now have the hope of knowing that our Lord and Savior lives in us. 1 Peter 1:3-6 reminds us that:

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by His great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while.”

This Easter, let us be a church that lives in God’s victory; let us be a church that rejoices in the blessings that God gives us. The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ's victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He is really the Son of God and that He has conquered death once and for all. Thomas needed proof of Jesus’ resurrection and when he confirmed it, he was filled with great joy. “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” John 20: 28-29

Our ancestors knew the power of the unseen God and every Nissan they observed Soma and remembered to attribute to God the celebration of new life in every area of their being. God continues to reveal Himself in a plethora of situations around us. Let us strengthen our faith and commitment in the word of God, let us continue in our commitment to the body of faith, and let us continue to count our blessings daily.

May you all have a wonderful Easter, a blessed New Year, and prosperity in all you do. May God continue to bless us all.

In His Service,

Cor-Bishop Fr. George Bet Rasho
